Digital Art Statement

I've Changed things recently, I might be re-designing this blog soon. because I don't feel that it represents what I'm doing now properly.

I'm leaning now towards digital art.



I have added the statement I wrote about it:

I wish to explore the digital aesthetic in relation to the contemporary 'environment' or everyday life.
I believe digital art is an evolved and a contemporary medium, like us it is evolving and adapting-it now could be seen as parallel to Human Development. the 'modern man' is attached to the digital realm and I believe that to express this situation-the digital medium works best. the contemporary world is often described as having a fast pace or 'speed' to it, this is because of new technology which we have developed, in prehistoric times it was the creation of the printing press that sped our connection, the modern example would be the Internet; with this technology we are able to receive information and ideas in an instant from across the globe, we are still connected to the slower 'physical realm' but we act upon the 'digital realm' as well, the internet is an absolute pure mirror of mankind; after all it is created by us-for us. the role of the digital has fundamentally changed our lives-it plays a un-exchangeable role. through a digital aesthetic I will create works which are observations of the 'modern man' and his connection and influences to the contemporary world, including themes which range from Consumerism to alienation. personally I feel there is an overwhelming sense of alienation in the modern age or the 'digital age'

I Changed my video, it is no longer name 'Requiem'
but: 'Memento De Flentes Somnium'

Which Translates roughly: 'Memory Of The Weeping Dream'

basically this video is about the monotony of life.
the everyday routine, Eat. Sleep.
the light cast is the outside world-one which bathes us in a cold glow-the T.V Screen-the digital seems abusive-cold-we are  looking upon our selves. the body cannot escape.
escape this claustrophobic lifestyle.

so I've moved into my studio space at the post office building now.

 I've been doing a bit lately, feeling like i'm moving somewhere,

it'll be good to get back into it this year and hopefully get my own studio space, 

and make up a few 'Ah,' Zines - unfortunately i still have not got my camera back.

work gets more interesting we brang out a new brand called 'Jimmy Recard'

 i did all the design work for that aswell some of the printing.

they're selling pretty well too. i'd put in a link but they're not on the online store yet.

Meat (On) Line Gallery

I haven't posted this yet, but when It came time to hand in my Digital Folio of work end of last year I created a on line gallery to display the work,

I called it:

after a small Zine I was working on at the time, the image above was the only thing i handed in at the end of the year, it was a flyer printed onto cardboard with an image on the back.

This Film Features me (filming in POV) putting a Piece of Pizza in a microwave oven for 1:00 then at the end taking it out, If you've seen many of my Photography you'll probably notice that old Pizza's are a common theme in my photography, I filmed the movie not because of humor or anything silly like at - given its probably part of it. I wanted the Film to carry something more, its like the drawings i did of me Smoking - a lot of responses I got people asked if i was smoking a 'Cheeky' cigarette or not, the fact is its not about smoking its more about finding yourself at a moment and if these works could say anything they'd probably say,

"I don't know whats going on either."

people I've spoken too seem to receive some aspect of this,

Red Robots Work

negatives, Cosmic Consciousness by Tom Hamill

 I had some negatives developed today, 4 roll, 2 were black and white and one was a old roll that was out of date it was a roll i got with the camera-30 years out of date.

the other roll was just plain old fuji superia film 400iso, 

all rolls developed except the fuji one were taken when i first got the camera i hadn't gotten them developed till now.

brings back some old memories, i had longer hair then.

Home Made Fish Eye Lens,

i bought a little peep hole viewer from a hardware store to attach to the front of a lens, i'm wondering if i can find a way to modify a 35mm film camera to veiw through it, i'm guessing i'd have to take the whole thing apart to install it, 

why?

glad you asked, i have a  old broken 35mm fillm i obtained for nothing and i was able to jam open the shutter, i then blutacked the peephole in front of the lens and placed a white peice of paper where the film would run the light was cast through the open lens onto the white paper so i could see how much of the negative would be exposed, only a tinny circle in the middle would be exposed, so it can't be done like that. 

i built a little housing out of a film canister for the peephole so i could attach it to my old digital camera, 

i didn't follow one but you can find tutorials on youtube,

you have to zoom a little to cut out the large area of black, i think the angle is about 160 degree field of view

New Computer, DTB Printing

Messed with the HDR rendering to change this photo above, if she sees this she'll kill me.

it was during the break my computers hard drive died, nothing to worry about i got a new computer and saved all of my data, only thing i lost that I'm kind of disappointed about is all those actions i made.

oh-and I've now updated to Photoshop CS5.

Negative Scanner

this is the first neg image i used in this thing, it was in some old draws at home

I Recently got one of those cheap little negative scanners as a gift, i scanned a film i had developed and projected but could never upload because i had no digital copy,

so,

lets have a look at this scanner,

some bad things to be said about this:

-low DPI

-chunky especially bad on gradients

-really gross desaturated or wrong colors

-may be affected by ambient light or the scanners light it casts on film does not fill the whole frame equally causing glowing around the edges of dark images

-sharpness detail horrible

so it has a few major bad points to it-doesn't mean it doesn't have any good point though. like,

-its Cheap

-easy to use and light/small

-it scans negatives

-WWWAAAAYYY less time consuming then flatbed scanning, it took me like 5 mins to do a roll on this thing, on a flat bed it took 4 hours

seems I'm a pretty big tight ass the inexpensive part is a big bonus

inexpensive > many other things.... period.

i'll post some good photos from this roll that i havent uploaded yet,

Christmas Break, photos of the family

i went hope for the Christmas break and did a bit on the farm,

had a good home cooked meal and did a lot of hours in the tractor, took a lot of photos,

discovered my X100  has sticky aperture blades, i don't know when it started, i read about it on a forum and thought i better check mine-apparently it is an issue with the fine pix X100, could have happened in the recent heat or could have happened a month ago-if i had of known this earlier i would have paid more attention, its not really something you check-i did find i was having some trouble recently taking a picture of a cow in the shade on a bright sunny day-i thought it may have been the patches of light through the branches or ambient light fooling the shutter speed, so i changed that- i also would have discovered this earlier if i didn't have the ND filter setting on, i would have found a lot of photos were over exposed but this was acting as a aperture replacement. 

the blades were getting stuck when moving inward so the larger settings were no use, the aperture still remained wide open.

this was a very disappointing thing to find especially in such an expensive and well put together thing like the X100, so anyway, i discovered it now before it was too late and its been sent for repairs.

i took all my photos this time in HD aspect ratio

painting's develop. my artworks are falling off the walls.

I have been working on the paintings i photographed a couple posts ago, the one on the left, you cant make out much detail but I've build up the surface, I'm going to sand back the (green tinged) white paint I've dripped onto the canvas to a thick layer of wood glue that i had over what i had drawn previously. the one on the right I'm working on how to build it up, below you will see two sketches I've done for it, one on a notebook the other i did digitally in ms paint,  it has similar vibes to one called 'NAZI WITCH' (see the very bottom image).. or will have. the difference being its much larger.

if a painting isn't sold, does it have any value? I don't think it does really.

Writing a Artist Statement

I've started writing up an Artist Statement,
here it is so far:

my shoes have worn down i have a hole in them, so now when it rains my feet are wet. i
search the net-some one has posted a picture of Gaddafi's body, some people outside
are making noise somewhere and a blow fly is in my room-i kill it. tonight I'm going out,
we drink till we are tight, the music is so horrible and my mouth and clothes stink of
cigarettes. in the bathroom my cold stupid drunken eyes stare back. people cuss if you
say your an artist, the little man in my headphones is yelling about something-but I'm
not quite sure what, people waste away in the pubs or in their lounge, people dream
about the big screen. what images do i draw when there is so much, what can i do to be
an individual in this mess. what do people expect from me-perhaps nothing i mean,
everyone is trying to write a book. another child born another sucker, I'm just another
sucker?

this is contemporary, i am contemporary, i should cover this in what i create, should i
paint anything? or just paint the canvas white, just be a quiet voice in this place that
screams.

thats all i do, i have become very much expressive, and i cant sleep sometimes when
your mind is running you dont want to stop, and sleep can be such a waste.. maybe-only
sometimes. the world doesn't sleep. but you do. and its sometimes good to go away and
stay out of sight. or wash my pants i've been wearing these for the last 3 weeks,
 

i have to go, my microwave dinner is almost done.

Photography.

A change of speed, a change of style. A change of scene, - A loaded gun won't set you free. So you say. We'll share a drink and step outside,

the EYE exhibition has caused me to hate all my work, i haven't sold anything-ever actually-and it kind of disappoints me-but then again i guess it doesn't matter, in fact the only problem is that i will slowly have a build up of old works-old works that now seem too childish and too messy, actually i still do like them, its just the fact that i don't know how many people receive them, people say they like them, they either say how they really like them or just not say anything at all, maybe i should move more towards works that will sell-no i don't like that idea, i think I'll do what i like, and this expressionist vain I've tapped into i really like. i just need to work more.

i want to really have an emotional impact, i want my works to be more musical and more lyrical, and i still want to have an impressive figurative painterly forms in my artwork, i still want to include words and thoughts, but i need to work on my colors my flow of the artwork, where the eye travels and the surface, texture and history.

i really want to have such an emotional impact, i want to mirror everything, the life of us, maybe the purpose of painting cannot have an emotional impact? or people just have not been educated to receive this, 

and i guess a bad tradesman blames his tools, and we are all tools.

I've been working, and I've been home alone, i don't know how much of this i can take.

I'll write up my artist statement,

so,

at the eye exhibition i was really inspired by a friend of mines work-well his not really a friend-his in tafe too but i haven't seen much of his work, and it is good.

i walked into Dulux today, and i asked if they have any sample pots of paint, the guy said he did, but they usually mix them for around 6 bucks, the man had some old ones laying around, he said i could have them, so i took them, 5 pots the colors are white, orange, red, a darker red, and a middle Grey

here are the artworks i started today, I'll work from the base, building the surface, adding things going over things allow mistakes, people have told me that I'm good at following my intuition so that's just what I'll do, at the same time I'll collect images and lines and add them when appropriate again following my intuition.

I've been looking more at pop art, and found that the colors are great, i want to explore colors i want to explore colors that for me are plastic, modern and electrical. that's the direction i want to take and the feeling i wish to achieve. these are just the starts of these works.

its like I've come almost a full circle this year at the beginning i was much more focused on figurative realistic works, but. yeah.

oh and i updated my website.

Website Re-design

I've been thinking to change the design of my website again lately. i want something more white.

I'll post some options I've been considering, should i change or keep it the same?.

 these two designs will be set out much like my blog, each page will have a different image for a header.
